Since their start in 1999, Sonicflood has been a steady strong force in modern worship. However, as the band continued on, the dream slipped away slowly, with every original band member leaving the group for one reason or another. Over the course of the years since then, Sonicflood has gone through six member changes, which makes the originality of the starting band seem nearly impossible. Still, the band, as it stands today, continues to make records and tour relentlessly, and as a sort of gift to their fans, they offer this new live album, Glimpse, full of songs as they were performed around all parts of the world.
The disc starts off strong with "Your Love Goes On Forever," leading straight into the band's staple "Open The Eyes Of My Heart." The song showcases current vocalist Rick Heil's talent, but the song is quick and almost seems as if it was just thrown in for good measure. "I Want To Know You" just isn't what it used to be without being played by the original lineup. Heil even includes in some crowd participation, by asking them to throw up their "rockfists." Most of the other newer tracks, like "Resonate," "You Are," and "God Is Here" sound too rehearsed, and don't leave much for the audience to sing with. "Lord Of The Dance" is the gem on the album, capturing the band's live show intensity. As the album winds down, the mood is shifted to accommodate the two non-live tracks "Infinite Love" and "Save Me," both of which would have been fit better if included on the group's next studio disc. The album ends with a reprise of "I Want To Know You" sung by an African choir, but it just feels out of place and hurried.
Overall, this is a decent live album for the current Sonicflood crew. It would be nice to still have one or two of the original members to still be in the group, but Heil and his team have shown what they can do to keep the dream alive.
