The Let Me Go On EP precedes Seabird's first full length album 'Til We See the Shore, but it gives fans and those interested a glimpse at the bands skill. The four song EP revolves around Aaron Morgan's explanation of his lyrics and the beautiful piano centered music, which sets the tone for this new alternative rock band, "There is a redemptive quality present in this record, even in the darker moments."
The opening song and title track "Let Me Go On" sounds like Jars of Clay, in a good way, especially vocally. The song also has a good organic sound to it, and the second time around for the chorus is just excellent for this smooth sounding song with a great echo. While "Not Alone" is a much simpler tune in comparison, the piano is wonderful; however one drawback sure is that the lead vocals lack something. "Stronger" is the most impressive demonstration of Seabird's talent with the piano, but while the song is very melodic, the vocals lack again. The impressive instrumental introduction to "Let Me Go On [Olaj's Mix]" is only the beginning of a clever remix that features a muffled medium rock tune and one entirely different tune change which only increases the song's complexity.
While trying to write songs about meaningful things like relationships, bittersweet goodbyes, and losses, Seabird is not outspoken about their faith. In fact among the good messages there are no references to God at all, and a line on "Let Me Go On" says, "Just give me one more song/ If it sucks we all go home/ If not we sing along." While it's only a four song EP, it would be good for Seabird to put their faith in a more relevant role in their debut album. Let Me Go EP, with the lyrics aside, is a very impressive and intricate album musically.
