Showbread made a successful breakthorugh in 2004 with No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical. However, imagine that album, strip away the studio quality recording, replace it with that of a friend's garage, up the angst levels of one Josh Dies, and increase the speed at which Dies and Mobely spit out their lyrics and you get Goodbye Is Forever.
Released independently by the band in 1999, Goodbye Is Forever is not an album for first time listeners of the band. And even for dedicated bread heads, a few solid listens may be what it takes for you to appreciate the music on this album.
Many of the songs are very hard to tell apart for the first listen... and the second and the third. Lots of distortion and screaming are the norm, yet once you get over that fact, the songs on this album are quite good. "Everything Is Meaningless," for example, is screamed scripture and is a good way of getting the word of God out to a hardcore audience.
The current members of Showbread have stated that they hate this record, and it is easy to see why they would when compared to their most recent recording, The Fear Of God. Die hard Bread fans will love this. Otherwise, be warned.
