Aaron Sprinkle
Moontraveler

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 10 tracks: 40 minutes, 32 seconds
Street Date: July 13, 1999

In 1996, many fans were disappointed to hear that Poor Old lu were calling it quits. Poor Old Lu was a standout band of the alternative rock scene of the 90's. But in life sometimes one thing has to end for something else to begin. The thing that began with the end of Poor Old lu was the solo career of Lu's guitarist Aaron Sprinkle. And his first solo album, Moontraveler, is a lo-fi thing of beauty.

Moontraveler begins with "Solace," which combines acoustic and fuzzy guitar work to make an outstanding beginning for the record. Track two, "I Wish I were You" also has some great acoustic guitar work. In fact, that is one of the things that stands out about Moontraveler - nice, well-written and played guitar parts. Aaron has a way with melody. "Antennae's Wife" is a bouncy song that will get stuck in your head. And "Motor Cars" has some more of that fuzzy guitar.

On the lyrical side of things, most of the songs have a personal feel to them. Several speak of God. "Solace" speaks about God loving us, even with all of our faults. And on "What Sorry Could Be" he sings, "when you feel My scar, it'll bring you next to Me. When I was hanging on a tree."

All in all, this is a great record. Sprinkle has proven that he can wear many hats successfully. He started as guitarist for a popular band of the 90's, then launched his solo work, and he is still high in demand as a producer. Plus his current project Fair released a second record this month. If you are a fan of Fair and haven't checked out any of Aaron Sprinkles solo work, I highly recommend that you do. Moontraveler is a good place to start exploring a talented musician's work.
