Originality is always hard to come by, especially with singer/songwriters in the Christian music industry. Vicky Beeching proved two years ago that she had what it took to stay afloat by releasing her first album, Yesterday, Today, and Forever. With much touring under her belt, she has released her second full-length album, Painting the Invisible. How does this new album compare to her debut?
Right from the beginning, you will see that Beeching has a more mature feel to her songwriting and music as a whole, compared to her style counterpart Bethany Dillon. Dillon writes and plays her music with a very youthful feel to it, whereas Beeching has a much more produced and more distinct worship feel. Songs like "Join the Song," the catchy "Everyone Under The Sun," and the worshipful "At All Times" showcase this difference, while "Great Is Your Glory" and the soothing sounds of "Suddenly" use violin and guitar mixes to add to the singer's talent. "Suddenly" even breathes of a bit of an early Rebecca St. James, as well as the upbeat "Forever More."
Vicky Beeching's sophomore album may not be one of the best of the year, but it's definitely one that many will find originality in. Compared to her first record, there is little difference, revealing just more of the same. Worship fans and fans of solid pop music will certainly enjoy Beeching's second venture, but others may find little excitement here.
