Fans of Holland will be more that surprised by this first attempt by the new and improved Lonely Hearts. While many albums start off slow and virtually unimpressive, The Lonely Hearts EP is unbelievably enticing right from the start. Opening with the decisively catchy "Passive Aggressive," the album quickly takes off with energy and momentum. This is by far the best track, but each other song neatly follows and aligns itself to the overall essence of this album. Songs like "Love Comes Quickly" and "Good Intentions" contribute to the album's southern flair and almost folk-like rhythm. The pace truly slows with "Kings and Queens," which although somewhat monotonous, provides the listener with a moment of delicate reflection. The Lonely Hearts EP appears to be a mix of the bittersweet and the familiar, while Will Holland's pure vocals further attract the listener. Perhaps the only downside would be the closing track, which falls slightly short of capturing the album's overall mood. As a whole, however, The Lonely Hearts EP is a beautiful and deeply satisfying piece of work.
