David Taylor intends to do nothing less than change the face of modern worship. It is about as simple as that. The first step in that process comes in the form of Worship ExPerience, an EP containing four songs that provide a taste of what is to come.
The twenty-plus minute EP might sound short, but with only four songs, each track averages at over five minutes. These are not short, catchy pop anthems. With influences ranging from Delirious? to Tree63 to Grammatrain, the epic, eclectic rock sound is savored for all it is worth. And while you most likely will find yourself singing along, it will come out of a spirit of worship, not simply because the songs made you tap your feet.
The experience begins with guitars blaring and cymbals smashing on "Undeserved," making for a unique indie sound. The opening track deals with the grace of God that gave an undeserving world its only begotten Son. "Undeserved" ends its nearly six-minute running time and the sounds of funk guitar start out "Wait," a simple cry out to the Lord to send the fire of the Holy Spirit to burn in the hearts of Christians. "Face to Face" begins with an ambient piano solo that runs throughout the entire song, eventually accompanied by a looping drum beat, all leading up to grinding guitar that leads the song to it's end, "I don't really care about anything else/ Nothing else really matters anyway/ I just want to see You face to face." "Infinity" is a fitting close, as it starts slow, but continues building momentum until its finish.
Ambitious to say the very least, David Taylor is off to a great start. Perhaps that is this projects only fault, however: So much ambition harnessed in such a short time period. Still, those that can grab hold of this excellent piece of work for what it is will enjoy it thoroughly, and should be content until the full-length release is ready this summer.
