In the Second Book of Kings in the Bible, there is a fascinating account of how God sometimes chooses to demonstrate His power on behalf of His people without any warning or outward signs. The kings of Israel, Judah, and Edom had united to attack Moab. After a seven-day march, the army had no water left for themselves or their animals. Their situation looked hopeless, and they were prepared to die. Then good King Jehoshaphat summoned Elisha, the prophet of God, who revealed the Lord's plan to perform a miracle on their behalf. To me, the most amazing part of this prophecy is the Lord saying, "You will see neither wind nor rain…" God is saying here, "You're not going to see any signs that a miracle is coming, but it's coming just the same." And not only was God going to do something that was virtually impossible, but He said, "This is an EASY thing in the eyes of the Lord."
I can think of so many times that I encountered challenges in my life, and though a part of me hoped that God would intervene on my behalf, my faith faltered because I thought, "I don't see any signs that He's doing anything!" The fleshly part of me wanted to see something tangible, although the spiritual part of me knew that God was perfectly capable of working wonders on my behalf without any visible signs. The great prophet of God, Isaiah, declared, "Clearly, You are a God who works behind the scenes." (Isaiah 45:15 MSG) That's one reason why the apostle Paul stated, "We live by believing and not by seeing." (2 Corinthians 5:7 NLT)
Are you waiting to see some evidence that God is working on your behalf in a situation? Are you waiting for the right phone call, letter in the mail, or other tangible evidence? Rest assured that it is an easy thing for God to come to your aid, even when signs that He will do so are virtually nonexistent!
Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I have doubted You because I couldn't see any signs that You had plans to help me. Remind me that Your power and wisdom transcend my comprehension, and that Your love for me knows no bounds. Teach me how to "walk by faith, and not by sight," as Your Word declares. (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV) Help me to cooperate with You for the building of my faith by devoting myself to prayer and Scripture study. Thank You that my breakthrough is on its way right now - with or without signs!
