Topic: New Skillet CD - "Awake" Posted: July-13-2008 at 8:31am |

Don't get too excited... but I just read a bulletin from Ben on Myspace. I'll give you a little bit of it :)
...Dearest Panheads, My Deepest Apologies
Hello all.
So.... I cant seem to find our flipcam. Thus the reason why there havent been any video posts in the last week or so. We've been out on the road, soI'm hoping its at home but if its not, looks like we will have to buy a new one. Sorry to all our commited podcasts viewers. We will beback online shortly. I hope you found other things in life to do. I'm sure it was tough.
:)
Just started on pre production for the new record the other day. :) I shouldnt even be talking about it. the end. bye.
Here's a nice little list from the summer:
-Days without a coffee maker : approx.
20
-Days without a shower : ....uh...
-number of free shirts received whilst walking around : 5
-number of large hot chocolate containers we've gone through : 2
-number of falls on stage : 2 (John in NM and Ben at Alive Festival)
ok... i cant think of anything else thats funny or important. i might add to this list later.
Keep rocking.
we love you all.

Let's see... Skillet has only gotten better over time, and Collide and Comatose were absolutely amazing. That means...THIS IS GONNA BE A STINKIN AWESOME CD!!!

Collide was the best CD they have ever done and easily one of the best Christian Rock CDs to ever come out.
Comatose...not so much. I can honestly say that the CD was downright horrible. That summer both Comatose and Pillar's The Reckoning was horrible for me. I was so looking forward to those releases and now they set unplayed (except for the track "Comatose", the lone exception) on my Itunes.
Pillar recovered very well with For the Love of the Game and I hope I can say that about Skillet when all is said and done with this new album.

You like Comatose, but not Falling Inside The Black? Or Rebirthing? Or(this one could fit on Collide)Better Than Drugs?
@Guitar Freak: I can't say that. Frankly, my favorite cds in order are:
Collide
Comatose
Alien Youth
Skillet
Hey You, I Love Your Soul
Invincible.
I was not at all impressed with Invincible, and Hey You... was barely better. Their other albums were all amazing, but those two weren't skillets best work.

A new record sounds awesome! I read that bulletin but somehow i skimmed over that part lol. I'm afraid John's vocals aren't going to last much longer..

^weird. Some songs actually did take time to grow on me, you should really play the record through 2-3 times before saying you don't like it.

I didnt think the record was bad. I liked Rebirthing, Better Than Drugs, Comatose, and Whispers in the Dark (off the top of my head) but i can see where ya'll are coming from cuz there was alot of soft songs on this cd.
But you have to understand that they were trying to go mainstream, and songs like "Older i get" are good songs to go mainstream too.
i wish they had put the song off their special edition(cant remember the title) on the original cd though

I loved Comatose, and intend to buy Collide. I really loved "The Last Night". That song was so perfect.

A new Skillet CD is probably the best news I've gotten this month.
You know, since Skillet is pretty much renowned for taking a different direction with each CD, you have to wonder what the sound's going to be this time. I'm hoping for something along the lines of Collide, but at the same time, I don't really want to give Skillet a genre box. Surprise me, in other words.

all the skillet songs sound the same. I was a big fan when their self titled album came out. Then they started leaning towards the electronic rock stuff and then by the time alien youth came out, i completely gave up on then.
they're slowly coming back. Their latest stuff isn't bad but they aren't good enough to keep listening to them time after time.
hopefully the next one is better than ALL OF THE OTHER ALBUMS...

^you have no ears. Alien Youth was Far better than invincible or Hey You, I love your soul. their songs do not even sound close to the same, and Collide weas better than their self titled. From Electronica to Hard Rock is hardly "slowly"

i was watching a interview with John Cooper (lead singer) to see what skillet was up to lately... and he said that he has 11 songs writtin and he is begining to demo them... and he wants to start working in the studio by september, OR when the songs are done... but definatly THIS year! which means the album is coming soon... im so psyched
*****this interview was taped about 3 weeks ago so it might be updated by now....

I'm not knocking them for trying to go mainstream, but I do have a problem with making such a fantastic album in Collide and then change their whole approach just to appeal to a new audience. I can't stand when a indie band makes it big, but doesn't sound anything like they did before they were signed. (Weird sidenote: I also don't like bands that act too indie whether their signed or not. Go figure.)
I don't mind "Christian Bands" or a "band of Christians" going mainstream (not secular, but mainstream. Two totally different things.), but please stay true to what got you to the dance floor please.

^I agree, I liked Collide, and a few off their self titled, but Comatose and Alien Youth were very good too. I have to say, Collide is one of the few albums where I only have to skip 1 or less songs (the title track...I don't know why but I can't stand it...A little more isn't too much better, but it's shorter).

^I did like more tracks off Alien Youth then I did Comatose.
I just hope that now that they have gotten into the mainstream that they do what they do best...hard distorted guitars and big epic rock songs that make the hair on you neck stand on end.

^I don't know what to expect. I've always thought Skillet had a pretty good thing going on on all of their stuff, even though I don't have all of it. To each his (or her) own, I guess. I do hope they have some longer songs, though. More complicated instrumentation (Riffs, solos, etc.) would be nice, but I'd still but it if it was just Comatose pt.2. I'm already a bit too excited about this one.

too many of their songs have a pause near the end of the song (around the bridge) where they jump into the chorus again...
oh, well. Anyways, that my opinion, they're not that good. So i'll just leave it at that. Not gonna sit here and argue with you...

as of 37 minutes ago (yes im percise) john cooper just posted on his twitter: "we just arrived in L.A. to start recording tomorrow. every few days we are gonna release a video on myspace so you guys will be in the s...(this is where i dont know what else he said... must of ran out of charaters (only 140 charaters per tweet)>_> yes i know these things)
anywho, so we'll probably get a sneak peak on some music... and whatever else people do in recording studios, in the warm L.A... :]

I hope it's not like Comatose. I mean I didn't think Comatose was bad or anything, just not what I was looking for from Skillet.
