Does anyone else like them? I just discovered them. I bought their acoustic album "Seattle Sessions" on iTunes yesterday and it's amazing. I also have "The Fight" and "The Coldest Heart". They're refreshing to listen to amidst all my heavy metal.

May raw rock kill you forever and ever! Amen!

The Classic Crime is amazing.

Along with The Fight and The Coldest Heart, I also dig Who Needs Air, one of the coolest slow songs

I absolutely love "Who Needs Air," great song. I'm not sure if it's on Seattle Sessions though. New album on June 24, yay!

the classic crime is absolutely amazing... who needs air has been one of my fav songs ever since albatros came out... the whole album is excellent. there isn't a dull song on it, and i cannot wait for seattle sessions to come out. every song ive heard from it is still great... they have a lot of promise in them for the future...
Been about 2 years since I've been on, but I'm happy to be back to the best boards in the world.

Albatross is one of my top 5 albums of all time, it's absolutely incredible stuff. Matt McDonald is easily the best Christian vocalist IMO.

So who else is looking forward to their next album, The Silver Cord? It comes out in June. Matt had this to say about it about 6 months ago...

Over the past few months we've been writing, demoing and rehashing material for the full length follow up to Albatross. I can't explain to you how pleased we are. We feel this record will be so much more mature; musically and lyrically. It will be deeper and darker and hopefully sometimes a little disturbing, but all the while maintaining songs that have some semblance of a "pop gem" as they call it in the industry. The concepts of songs on the record range from death and mortality and anguish, to love and lust and life. We're focusing on the record as a whole so it will flow from one concept to the next, rather than having 10-12 fragmented singles lined up together. It is our hope that there is something on it for everyone, something that grabs a person at their very core and relates to them in a sincere way. We do not want to put out next years fad or be a flash in the pan. We do not want to be "ahead of the game" or of whatever "scene" is hot. We hope to rise above this game, and to put out timeless music you can listen to years from now and appreciate (kind of like when I put in U2's Joshua tree or Third Eye Blind's S/T) It's not just that they were good, its that they are good, and will continue to reach the ears and hearts of people for a long time.

...and also this about 2 months ago...

For those of you who know about recording an album in this day and age, you know about click tracks, beat detection and quantizing, borrowing samples and re-amping... all are the industry standard for a quality manufactured recording. The crazy thing is we aren't doing any of that, for the most part we're making this record how they used to be made. We're capturing a vibe rather than a tempo, and allowing the songs to move rather than squeezing them into a perfect mathematical grid. Every sound we get is original and unique, and it's feeling live and real and big.

Sounds promising...pretty much as long as Matt is singing and writing the lyrics, it's going to be incredible. I can't decide between this, UnderOATH and Anberlin for my most anticipated album of '08...

Abracadavers, the first single, is out today. I bought it, it's pretty sweet...and much more direct spiritual lyrics too which is good to see.

Yeah, the new track sounds pretty good.

The Classic Crime is amazing, I loved their Albatross album. The Acoustic sessions were okay, but I'm not really into acoustic songs all that much. Can't wait for the new album!

Anyway, I got to hear Gravedigging as well....ooh yeah, this album's gonna be good.

Hey guys, long time reader of this message board, first time posting... Just thought I'd pop in and let ya'll know that the classic crime has ALL of they're songs from the new album up.

It's amazing.... one of the best albums I've heard all year. Any Christian with spiritual depth will notice the ties to the death of Jesus. Even the album cover.

I think they have an amazing sound, but the reasons they have listed on why they don't want to be considered "Christians" is completely moronic.

I really want the new CD; it sounds great. I have the other two. I was kind of surprised when I read the interview. I thought that they would say something along the lines of, "We're Christians in a band, not a 'Christian band'". That's what I hear a lot of artists say, and I'm fine with that, in fact I don't really believe in "Christian bands". I think they made a valid point about that. But they never really even claimed to be Christains at all in the interview. Maybe I just didn't understand it. I still love their music though.

I think you guys need to read the new interview. I don't think you can call what he said 'moronic' at all anymore.  I'm with the poster above, always loved their music, but now I have mad respect for them. Even more than before.

It's not a matter of them not wanting to be Christ-like. They never said that. It's a question of whether they want to be labeled as a 'Christian' band. I know a lot of people are turned off my the concept of Christian music as a genre, so these guys could just be trying to breach those borders and live their faith through their lyrics, rather than simply preach it. They have some excellent lyrics that definitely explore some real issues.

I enjoyed reading the interview and it was nice to see what a artist actually believes. The Christian music industry pushes so many bands to the Christian market and we have no idea what any of the artist actually believe.

Even though I enjoyed the interview and it was cool too see them share what is on their hearts i will not be buying the classic crime cd.

Sometimes I wonder if this band is really Christian. They sing about drinking and smoking and wahnot in some songs.

What song(s) are you talking about specifically? "Four Chords"? It mentions someone else smoking cigarettes; I'm not sure how that reference makes someone not a Christian?

Can you explain a little more?

Have you read our interview with this band? Yes, it's from 2008 but it's clear these guys are Christians.

In the song "Medisin," they mention drinking, but it's not in a positive light in the slightest. They say "I know there's more to life than drinking."

I think it's a great album, probably seond to The Silver Cord, though. There aren't really any bad songs, and it's a big step up from Vagabonds, which wore off of me pretty quickly.
