    Posted: Mar-16-2010 at 3:22am
Was just browsing the internet looking to see if P.O.D. had officially broken up or not, then I come across a You Tube video from about 3 months ago with Wuv and Marcos in the studio announcing a new P.O.D. album for 2010 (given their previous announcements of release dates, imo I believe 2011 is much more likely).

There is a riff that you hear in the end of the video that sounds pretty cool, a kind of old school P.O.D. flavor (except for the synth).

Also there is a photo that has been released with 3/4 of the band with Howard Benson (the producer of Satellite and FEOS).

I hope the new sound is a COMPLETE departure from their last effort, When Angels And Serpents Dance.

Any thoughts?

I grew up on these guys... Really over their last few albums. Musically they're pretty awesome the whole way through, but in terms of content, they used to actually preach the Gospel... But they stopped doing that in the Fundamental Elements days... So I don't have particularly high hopes for anything new they end up offering... : (

I disagree...though it wasn't as blatant as the brown an snuff the punk albums, Fundamental actually had alot of scripture and Christian references in it, especially with songs like "Tribal" which says
"My life, a sacrifice is made new through these confessions
Manifested, this joy is my desire
Light this fire to flames, praise the name, Jehovah Jireh
Is my provider, the truth that lives inside of this fighter?
Take me higher, Master, Sire, makes me a rider"

Satellite and Testify had alot of Christian lyrics in it too, such as the song "portrait" which has the word "Christ" in it 18 times and has this chorus
" Some people call you father
Maybe you could set me free
These people hate each other
But you've always been there for me "

I agree it's not blatant worship like brown and snuff the punk, but it's definitely still Christian and Christ-based

It better be better than When Angels and Serpants Dance.

I think if they crunch up the guitars and do nothing but open d chords it would STILL be better than WAASD

I bought all of their albums up until Testify and have seen them live but I have to admit they are past their prime. I think once Markos left the first time they were in trouble. Their initial style was exactly what the late 90s was looking for, but have lost touch with their original fanbase

Well nu metal has been dead for years, they can't exactly get back in touch with all their fanboys and still maintain musical quality.

It is now 2011 and we have yet to see P.O.D. come out with an album. What a shame, these guys used to be great.

Lol yeah, at least they play a new song live though. And I'm going to see them in August in Fort Worth. But yeah, they keep talking and talking about a new album...who knows if it will ever come. But the new song is pretty rockin

WAASD was not good in my opinion, so I really hope they go back to Satellite (luuuuuvvvv Satellite) for this new album. I got fooled by a couple of good reviews for WAASD and bought it.........there went $12 and probably 2 days of my life.LOL

P.O.D. needs to reclaim the magic they had back in the "Satellite" days. That was an incredible rock album, but they haven't even gotten close to touching it since then.

Red Five is totally right 'cause on Satellite, Sonny actually rapped (what a concept!!). Also, the power chords were bigger and the music was edgier. And by the way, nu-metal still rules!!!!!!

I think Testify was the closest they ever got to Satellite, there were some good songs of that style (Lights Out, Sounds Like War, Teachers, Say Hello, Mark My Words)

But this last album was absolutely awful. They said they're going back to their roots on the new album, and the new song that they've been playing live definitely supports that claim

I don't even know that it has a lot to do with rap... When I think of my favorite songs on that album, a lot of them don't have any rap on them at all.

There was just more passion and energy in their music back then. It felt less like a product.

You nailed it with the "more passion and energy in their music back then"- although, I think every artist goes through a slump at some point. I'd love to see POD pull out of it though. Sooner rather than later, Sonny. Come on!

Listening to "On Fire". Great song! definitely a return to form for the band. I'm excited about them going back to their roots.

I was skeptical of the new album until I heard it was a return to their rap rock roots (I wasn't fond of their last couple albums at all). Then when I heard On Fire, I knew right away that POD is awesome again.

On Fire is freakin awesome. I saw them live the other night in a bar that they were headlining, and Sonny talked about the renewed passion they had, and it really showed in there performance. He also talked about his beliefs about God on stage, which was really cool, because any band can do that at a Cornerstone or big Christian music festival, but it was really exciting to see him share his beliefs at an 18+ only bar show. It's something that P.O.D. hasn't done alot in previous years, and it helped show the passion they have, and I believe it will reflect in their music on the next album.

So far I am digging the new tunes they have released. "Eyez" is one of the heaviest things they've done in years, "Lost in Forever" sounds like a monster anthem like "Alive" and "Satellite" and "On Fire" is just an old school P.O.D. track. (All these songs are on Youtube). Just from these three songs alone, I would already put it above "When Angels and Serpents Dance". Thoughts?

Yes! Definitely an easy prediction, given that there weren't ANY good tracks on WAASD, and I would buy one of the three new songs over the entire WAASD album itself. But it definitely looks like we are in for something good from them. I told you guys that nu-metal isn't dead! I love it when bands return to the sound that their fans enjoyed the most; a good example is TFK's sound shift over the last two albums back to what?? NU-METAL! haha

The new song "Murdered Love" is amazing. I am really excited about this record, and am counting down the days until July 10.
