(NASHVILLE, TN) NOVEMBER 21, 2008 -- One of Christian music's most beloved and critically acclaimed bands, Waterdeep, is returning to the music scene with their most diverse album to date. Singer/Songwriter husband/wife duo, Don & Lori Chaffer, have branched out in both the music and mood of Pink and Blue, which releases December 9th. The album covers both a wide range of moods- from the fun-filled "Life of the Party" to the somber "My Second Try"- and a broad palette of musical elements- from unexpected pop grooves to familiarly vibey, acoustic timbres. The album will be available online at: iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic, Amazon MP3, Amie Street, Shockhound, and at Waterdeep's own webstore (waterdeep.com/store).
Produced by Don Chaffer, Pink and Blue is a full-length album that will be packaged as two EPs: "The Pink CD" featuring Lori's songs and "The Blue CD" featuring Don's. Furthermore, the band has released multiple online packaging options, including a limited edition version which features, among other things, an original piece of art by one or the other of their two children, and a 40-page activity book written by the Chaffer parents.
The Chaffers' nightly "family dance parties" with Miles (5 years old), and Ruby (2 years old) served as inspiration for the new album. "When Lori and I launched into the making of Pink & Blue, we had an itch to scratch," shares Don, "and our toddling children were unconsciously pushing us to write stuff that rocked a little harder." Recorded at Don's new commercial studio in downtown Kansas City, The Conductor, this album indeed rocks harder than anything from the band in recent years.
The album also showcases Waterdeep founding member, Brandon Graves, on drums, as well as Stan Sheldon, from the legendary live rock album, Frampton Comes Alive, on the bass. In addition to the fantastic musicianship that is expected from a Waterdeep album, it also holds the quirky sounds and vibe that have set Waterdeep apart from the rest of the pack.
In addition to their album release, Waterdeep is currently on the road with Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken and Alli Rogers. Tour dates can be found at www.waterdeep.com. A tour for the spring of 2009 is also in the works.
