(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) April 18, 2011--Multiple Dove Award and ASCAP Award winner Ginny Owens has been tapped to perform at the 60th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer in Washington D.C. on May 5. Among Owens’ song selections will be an original song written for the event.

In keeping with this year’s theme “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” Owens will play songs from her 2009 hymns record, some older fan favorites, as well as an original song for 400-500 attendees at a Canon House commemoration. She comments, “I’m both honored and excited to be a part of the National Day of Prayer events this year. What a privilege to live in a country where we can pray publicly for our government leaders, the state of our nation, and the world in which we live. It is a rare freedom; one I pray we continue to have for years to come.”

Director of Communications for the National Day of Prayer Task Force, Michael Calhoun comments, “We are excited that Ginny Owens will be joining us as the special musical guest for this year’s National Observance in Washington DC. As a person of strong faith and prayer, her music has inspired countless people to place their hope and trust in Almighty God – that’s a message that our country needs to hear given the many challenges we’re currently facing.”

Joining Owens will be esteemed author and international advocate for people with disabilities Joni Eareckson Tada, who will serve as the 2011 Honorary Chairman of the NDPTF and will give the keynote address. To learn more, or to find a National Day of Prayer event in your community, visit

About the National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
