Just before graduating from Liberty University this spring, twenty-something Meredith Andrews
readied her independent project entitled Mesmerized. Prior to Andrews' release, she gained
musical experience at LU by leading student worship, as well as traveled with the vocal group Truth,
which would later lead to recording her own solo album.
Out of the mold of worship leaders such as Darlene Zschech and Chris Tomlin, Andrews' work leans
towards the ever-popular contemporary worship stylings. Various tunes such as "For Your Glory,"
"More of You," and "Speak to Me," best display this sound. Andrews' departs from the pop/contemporary
worship vibe of Mesmerized, to explore a light jazz feel on "I Surrender It All."
"Satisfied" is the disc's most beautiful work with its soft piano and Andrews' voice reaching its
peak. This standout track is, at times, reminiscent of Ginny Owens' popular single "If You Want Me To."
Mesmerized eventually comes to an end with the ballad "As Worship To You," where she cries out
to God "May my life be as worship to You." By penning ten of the album's twelve tracks alone,
Andrews' work reflects her personal style, beliefs, and love for the Savior.
Mesmerized is a well-produced effort boasting clean production. Though this album will
probably not appeal to those who don't consider themselves to be a fan of the worship music genre,
those who enjoy the likes of Zschech and Tomlin as well as the other popular praise and worship
leaders should be pleased with Meredith Andrews and Mesmerized.
