Nashville, TN - March 10, 2011 - When the Newsboys see a need, they do what they can do to help in any way possible. Discovering the desperate need for clean water in the Dominican Republic, Newsboys, along with the dedicated support of Compassion International, are helping to supply a water filtration system in the Dominican Republic.
It is reported that 80% of disease is caused by unclean water, and according to the United Nations Development Program, "almost two million children die each year for the lack of clean water and adequate sanitation." The Dominican Republic is directly affected by this issue, as research has found that the water in most of its provinces is not suitable for consumption.
With the partnership of Newsboys and Compassion, a water purification system plan has been developed for the poor community of Santo Domingo located in the Dominican Republic. Thanks to this relationship between Newsboys and Compassion and others on "The Born Again Experience" tour, proceeds will go directly towards building the filtration system.
Newsboys' very own Duncan Phillips was joined by Carlos Whittaker last week as they visited this community to see this problem first hand, and to see where the well will be built. See a video of Duncan talking about this partnership with Compassion here.
"When you come to a place like Santo Domingo, you understand it is a life and death struggle to get fresh, clean water," Phillips shares. "For these people, it's a daily expedition [to get clean water]. Newsboys and Compassion have commited to put in a water filtration system, and when you partner with us and purchase the VIP ticket on 'The Born Again Experience,' you directly affect clean water for a community."
Announced in January, the Newsboys' 25-city "The Born Again Experience" spring tour will bring the message of "A Night For The City To Serve The City." Redefining the live show experience, Newsboys plan to get audiences on their feet while offering the evening's mission to offer hope, service and compassion to the community, for one another and for those in need. Each night of the tour hopes to bring a true partnership of service with the city for the city.
Newsboys will be joined on the tour by Kutless, Disciple, Carlos Whittaker, and special guest speaker Bob Lenz. For more information, please visit Newsboys.com.
