Since departing Audio Adrenaline earlier this year, Kevin Max has been hard at work on his next solo venture, Broken Temples. Originally slated for an August release, then November, the album has been long delayed, but is finally taking shape. Late Monday night, December 8th, Max launched a PledgeMusic campaign with a hidden goal to fund the project, set to release early in 2015.
About the project, Kevin writes, "Broken Temples is a musical companion to the great journey of the human condition. We are one part frailty, two parts misguided, with a dash of uncontrollable love and hope in the impossible. Like a darkened looking glass, the light cannot penetrate inside without it first being fractured. I heard a sermon one Sunday about the ‘Children of Israel’ wandering in the wilderness like ‘Broken Vessels.’ That notion and idea was the catalyst for the theme of what would be my 10th studio album. None of us are perfect, we are all broken and need the indwelling of the Spirit to make us whole. In the silence, and in the valley of temptation, trials, & defeat is where God can speak to us. When we surrender every bit of ego and flesh to the ultimate will of the Creator, we can truly be redeemed."
"Musically, this album was written on my upright piano and old, out of date Casio synthesizer," Max continues. "It was then brought into collaboration with several different writers and producers. I feel it represents the diverse facets of my musical influences and yet propels my music forward into some new directions. Lyrically, I wanted to reflect the changes I had experienced of God working on me throughout the years. Redemption is not a foreign word to me, it is something I have lived out and at a great cost. God has met me in the valley of my own temptations, failures, inadequacies and doubts. I have been tempered by defeat as well as by great success. My legacy is the story that God is continuing to author and finish in my own personal journey of the soul. We are all broken temples."
