War of Ages is not exactly the most well known Christain metal act on the scene right now but it's just a matter of time before they become a household name on the tongues of anyone who listens to metal music. Their new album, Pride of the Wicked, is an extremely fast record, containing screaming guitars, pummeling drums, and Leroy Hamp's vocals are some of the best I have heard in a long time. While this is an excellent record, it's not quite perfect. The amazing guitar work sometimes drowns everything else out and the bass seems very distant at different moments. However, these are very minor gripes. The album has a very distinct message in its lyrics - one of hope, of overcoming pride, and submitting to our Lord. An example of this is in "Silenced Insecurities," where Leroy states, "We fall then ask God why have you forsaken us. You'll never break me down. I'll fight through my pride. Stand strong. You'll never take my faith. I can't be held down."

Overall, this is an amazing record from a band that has yet to reach its full potential, and that's a scary thought considering how amazing they are. Metal fans, pick up this record. You will not regret it.

Just a couple years ago, War of Ages came out with a wonderful debut on Strike First Records. Just a year and a half later, after that release and a few member changes, War of Ages is back and ready to attack.

When you first hit play, you find a guitar in the distance and it sounds like it gets closer. Then it kicks in. You first wonder if this is the same War of Ages. Now they sound like an 80's metal band, however, the singer still screams. So that's good. What unfolds is arguably some of the best music in Facedown Records history. You continue to have wonderful guitar licks and a few guitar solos that will put a smile on your face. Forget about the screams, the music is the best part. The lyrics on this record are very in-depth. The songs mostly talk about going through battles with the wicked. Also, War Of Ages have a song or two that is about standing up for your beleifs.

Overall, Pride of the Wicked, in my opinon, is the best Facedown Records release to date. The music is great and the lyrics are right in line. If you are a fan of bands that are in-your-face hardcore and a fan of 80's metal mixed in with some screaming, this album is for you.
