Phil Wickham embarks on new tour on the heels of his just released 9th studio album titled, I Believe. The tour, named after the album, features 15 stops across the country. I had the honor of attending the Dayton, Ohio stop at Christian Life Center. Joining Wickham on this tour is Pat Barrett and Benjamin William Hastings. This is my third time seeing Phil live, as I caught him on the Hymn of Heaven tour a couple years back. One of the stand-out characteristics of this show is the aspect of familiarity. If you've listened to any ounce of worship music within the last decade, you have definitely come across the songs played that night, including "So Will I (100 Billion X)," "Build My Life," and "Living Hope."
Benjamin William Hastings opened the night by performing "Feels Like a Blessing," "Abandoned," and "So Will I." Hastings' set beautifully welcomes the night ahead. I have always been a fan of Hastings, and honestly think he's one of the most unique writers in Christian music today. It was truly incredible to see him live.
Phil Wickham follows, opening with triumph to the title track, "I Believe." The night never let up as Wickham played a solid mixture of songs from his latest album and throwbacks. What a blessing it was to hear the crowd roar, singing these songs to The Lord.
After about four songs, Pat Barrett took the stage showcasing a couple songs off of his latest album, Shelter, plus a worship favorite, "Worthy of It All". Wickham then returned for his second set. My favorite from the set was "Wait." It was really cool seeing Phil create a moment that wasn't rushed -- a moment to be present in worship that forced everyone to essentially…wait.
For the last half of the show, Wickham invited the audience into an intimate acoustic moment that is very familiar for the artist. Pat Barrett and Benjamin William Hastings later joined for some songs. There is a sense of unity in seeing three artists on stage singing each other's music. I love it. The night ended with "O Praise the Name," "Gratitude," and "Living Hope." These songs were also some of my favorites to hear from this night.
Overall, the I Believe Tour is very well done. Smaller shows like this focus less on the visual side of things, which brings more attention to the lyrics being sung across the room. I loved getting a chance to see some great men of God lead others in worship.
