Even though Jesus knew ahead of time that he was going to multiply enough loaves and fishes to feed the multitudes, He first tested Philip by asking him what he thought the solution to their food shortage was. Jesus was making a point here. He wanted Philip and the other disciples to acknowledge the fact that there was no human solution to the problem, so that God would get the glory for the miraculous provision that was to come.
Many times, it is only after we admit our helplessness that we see God's powerful intervention in our lives. Is there a situation in your life right now that seems hopeless? Commit it to the Lord, and when you do, admit that you need His help, and you are depending on Him to come to your aid. Then wait patiently, but with a renewed confidence that He has heard your prayer and is already working out a solution according to His perfect wisdom and plan for you.
Prayer: Lord, help me not to come to You as a last resort when I am in
need. Help me, instead, to seek You first from now on. I need You, Lord,
and I'm depending on You to give me the wisdom, strength, and grace I need
to be all that You want me to be, and to do all that You want me to do.
