When the huge in-the-wall air conditioner in our living room stopped working, my husband, Joe, and I had to decide what to do to replace it. Joe already had it in his mind that he wanted to buy a ductless split air unit. He had been researching them for many months, and he had heard from other people that split air units were the way to go. Joe continued to read information on websites. He watched countless videos about cooling options. And he talked to people who installed air conditioners for a living. Even so, after many months of failing to come to a decision, I finally told my husband that it was obvious that he did not have peace about investing in a split air unit, which might cost us more money than we could afford. I told Joe that perhaps his indecisiveness was a signal from God that we were heading in the wrong direction, and that we needed to redirect our thinking and our planning. We asked the Lord to show us what His best for us was in the situation, and we prayed that He would make us sensitive and obedient to His Spirit's leading in the matter.
I told Joe that we should at least explore the possibility of getting another in-the-wall air conditioner. But my husband insisted that he had already searched for one, and none could be found. I earnestly prayed that God would provide the perfectly-sized air conditioner for us, no matter what the odds were against it. And as we began searching anew, Joe was amazed when we discovered a new air conditioner that seemed to be only a bit larger than our old one. He warned me that he would have to make the hole in our living room wall larger, and that he would have to cut some of our vinyl siding on the outside of our home. He was preparing himself for a lot of work to make the new unit fit, but he finally gave in and ordered our new air conditioner. When it arrived, and our neighbors helped Joe to install our new appliance, everyone was amazed when it slid right into the hole that was already in our wall. That's when Joe and I looked at each other and smiled, knowing without a doubt that this was the Lord's best for us, and that we had made the right decision.
The Bible says: "Let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds...]" (Colossians 3:15 AMP) This is the Scripture that I gave my husband when it became obvious to me that he had no peace about the initial option he had in mind for our air conditioner dilemma. I told him that very often, an absence of peace in a situation means that we are looking in the wrong place, or we are headed in the wrong direction, and that God has a different - and better - option for us. Confirmation of God's best often comes when we change direction, and then everything falls into place. That is literally what happened when we put our new air conditioner into the hole in our living room wall. That's not to say that we won't encounter any obstacles when we head down the path the Lord has chosen for us. After all, Satan, the enemy of our souls, does not want us in the perfect will of God, and he is likely to try to get us off course. But it means that there will be a Holy Spirit "flow" present when we are headed in the right direction. And even if a part of us is anxious or fearful, we will have a deep-down sense of peace that we are in the perfect will of God.
If you are in a relationship right now, and you don't have peace about it, that absence of peace may be God's way of warning you to leave that person behind. Or perhaps you are planning on making a large purchase that you have an unsettled feeling about. God could be telling you to pause and pray for fresh revelation from Him in the matter. Or maybe you are experiencing health problems, and the course of healing that you have chosen has left you feeling uneasy. Whatever you don't have peace about today, I urge you to seek God's will once again in the matter, even if you have done so in the past. Nothing would be sadder than for you to end up settling for less than God's absolute best, especially when you don't have to.
Prayer: Lord, I come to You today to seek Your wisdom, Your direction, and Your guidance for my life. Grant me divine discernment and insight that will help me to see things from Your perspective, and to take the course of action that is Your perfect will for me. Give me fresh revelation from heaven that will lead me in the way of peace for every area of my life. Thank You that as I follow Your peace, and choose Your will above my own, I will receive the provision, the healing, and the relationships that are Your best for me!
