Wars and Rumors of Wars might be The Chariot's best argument that Josh Scogin's other band can rock as hard as his previous band, Norma Jean, while still making strides into the chaos that truly distinguishes The Chariot, both in their albums and their live shows (if you never caught The Chariot live, they were absolutely insane...and kind of in a scary way). Yet, while this band's final two records would see them going further into noise-rock, with long segments of sounds, samples, and feedback, Wars finds the proper balance between those elements and enjoyable, head-banging rhythms. Even though these songs rarely sit for long in the same time signature, the guitars and drums stay locked together in tight grooves that simply feel great. Look no further than the driving flow of "Giveth," an album highlight that beat Norma Jean's Meridional to the punch by a year. And at a crisp 30 minutes, Wars stands next to One Wing as The Chariot's most satisfying record.
