Doom Tiger has released a couple of EPs and a full-length album of different types of metal. His first Christmas EP,
A Very Mass Market Christmas is his second "mass market" titled record. Most of the songs present are common Christmas carols, but "Bring a Torch Jeannette Isabella" and "Coventry Carol" are a little rarer. While "Joy to the World" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" may be Christmas standards, it's very unlikely that you've heard them like this. Most of tracks have heavy death and drone metal influences, but others like "Silent Night" are more Gregorian chant. The guitars are slow and sludgy sounding and the growls are deep and guttural. The production value continues to improve with this release (though it sounds intentionally unpolished) and the drums feel a lot more organic than on the first EP. While the typical person isn't used to having "Joy to the World" growled at them, it would definitely appeal to the death and drone metal crowds who don't have a whole lot of Christmas choices. This album is a bit of an oddity in the realm of holiday music, and will only be relatable to a niche audience, but it may be some of Doom Tiger's best material to date. For my money, "Bring a Torch Jeannette Isabella" is the best sounding track on the album. If you're looking for a really heavy Christmas album, then look no further than
A Very Mass Market Christmas.
