Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, worship leader
Phil Craig released a debut EP last year and is making a quick turnaround with his single "Jesus Has Conquered (Confidence)". The track bears all the hallmarks of classic Chris Tomlin or Matt Redman tunes: piano driven melodies, a light touch of electric guitar, and a mid-tempo beat playing over lyrics that balance worship with encouragement. The message of the song points the believer to resting in the righteousness Jesus has clothed us with, thus meaning we don't have to feel enslaved to guilt or ever feel like we're not good enough for God. While the lyrics don't try anything fancy (nor does the music), there is a sense of depth and thought to the lines. Overall, the song doesn't do much to stand out from the large ocean of modern worship, but this sampling shows that Phil Craig is, among the many, one of the more thoughtful artists entering the scene. If you're building a worship playlist by indie artists, "Jesus Has Conquered (Confidence)" is one worth adding.
