Reawaken Hymns is the brain-child of Nathan Drake, a worship leader hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. Drake wanted to write songs that brought all walks of life together in praise. As his songs and arrangements gained steam in other churches, Reawaken Hymns was born. Now, Drake's vision is stretching into the world of recorded music, too, with his latest single, "Sovereign Sacrifice." This track certainly hits the goal that Drake is aiming for in crafting a song that all generations can feel comfortable singing. True to the stage name the tune is released under, its structure is hymn-like through the verses, while the chorus, bridge, and overall music give a feel more in keeping with modern trends (mid-tempo, repetitive feeling). What's striking about "Sovereign Sacrifice" is the theological depth laid out in the words, such as,
"The image of/God the Invisible/Revealed in the Human One/Firstborn son of God." It may not be textbook-level stuff, but compared to most modern praise songs, it might as well be. Ironically, the music is what holds this single back. Does it sound like a song that can easily translate to a church setting? Yes. But listening to it for enjoyment might get old after a few spins. As a taste, though, of what Reawaken Hymns can do, it's an interesting sample. One can easily see Drake's project continue to expand as more and more churches catch wind of what he's doing.
