'I love how this track came to be - it was a happy accident. We went to the Tracking Room in Nashville back in November 2019 to live track the band for a large portion of the album. We knew we wanted to track things live because we just had this gut feeling that when you got all of us in the same room would lead to some special spontaneous moments. And “Surrender” is just that. We were getting ready to track Set Free when the band began just kind of jamming and playing around with some different sounds. Suddenly this beautiful instrumental piece started to take shape and my brilliant producers immediately said “hit record and let’s do it again”. I jumped on a mic and started singing some ethereal “oohs” in the background. Suddenly, this beautiful piece took shape that I think was really important for the record. I never wanted to force it, I wanted it to happen organically. I’m so grateful for the musicians taking the time to add their creativity to this track. They didn’t just “phone it in” that day, they really spent the time to invest in creating some really special moments. I hope when people start the album and hear this track that it leads the listener to want to lean in and experience the album as a whole. An album filled with songs that I hope will leave the listener with a sense of hope and the freeing power of surrender and Cause, I really believe it’s in laying down our lives to serve Christ that we find freedom and we find identity.' - Hope Darst
