For his fourth recording, comedian Brad Stine is back to bring truth through comedy with "Wussification". As the premiere Christian / conservative comedian, Stine continues to fight for truth, justice, and the American way.
"Wussification" finds Stine at his most comfortable. Along with his usual blend of observational, pro-American humor, Stine seems to spend a lot more time just plain spitting truth and common sense than before. This results in strings of near laugh-free-but-smile-worthy moments that are at least amusing for no other reason than just the fact that Brad says things that so many people are afraid to even think. A majority of his themes are familiar and perhaps a bit repetitive (particularly from DVD to DVD), but Stine never fails to find a new point to make or a funny way to state it. And by the time he breaks a serious moment or point-making rant with a joke, it almost catches the viewer off guard, resulting in gut busting laughter.
If you've ever seen Brad Stine live, you'll know he isn't afraid to pull audience members into his routine by putting unsuspecting viewers on the spot. Stine does this here as well, even taking a little intimate "one on one" time to chat with his audience (with additional deleted footage of him teasing a young, aspiring firefighter in the DVD's special features). He ends this segment with a poignant, heartfelt moment that drives home such a powerful point about following God's call that when he gets right off his seat and barrels right into his finale bit, you'll have forgotten you were watching a comedy routine. Few comedy shows - if any others - leave you with even an ounce of things to chew on and ponder like Stine has the ability to. His bold, potentially abrasive delivery isn't for everyone (and is more than likely going to ruffle a few feathers), but in the end, he makes it clear he speaks his truth in love.
His previous three recordings were released in two separate forms - DVD and an audio disc. And for those who've only heard the audio portions of those projects, there's an enormous element to Stine's comedy that is lost by not being able to watch him. All is corrected with beautiful generosity as "Wussification" packages both the audio disc and DVD versions of the recording together. It's a wonderful thing to not only be able to choose your medium at will, but if you've seen the DVD and choose to listen to the audio portion in your car or portable device, you've got the memory to aid the comedy. It's a win-win packaging idea and the perfect way to experience "Wussification" without having to buy both separately.
It's debatable whether "Wussification" is Stine's best or not, but with four strong releases under his belt - not to mention two books as well - it's clear more good things are to come from this right-wing Christian comedian. Some may prefer non-stop laughs as opposed to Brad's decision to mix political and societal rants into his bits, but it's safe to say "Wussification" is a rounded and thought-provoking recording. Hollywood, take notice. Brad Stine's definitely still got our attention.
