On Tourniquet, Larry Norman rocks the flock for maybe the last time this side of the Pearly Gates.
If you don't know Larry Norman's music, this may be a good place to start, although it's very far from the earlier, 'classic' Larry most people know. It's the last album I know of that he wrote and recorded before his death in 2008 at age 60 (Look him up on Wikipedia).
Basically, he kick-started Jesus Rock in the 60s and 70s, shocking the Christian establishment by hanging out with the 'wrong' people and singing things no one else dare sing. He lived through a scandal or two, and wrote about some of it. "Endless Life of Dreams" is a little autobiographical peep at his tragic love life and how he overcame it.
This music is thoughtful and gutsy rock and roll dedicated to Larry's lifelong love, Jesus. Many will find "Turn" and "Feed The Poor" to cut to the quick; the latter, particularly, is hard to listen to while sitting in comfort and plenty.
"Rock the Flock" is a delightful Jesus-rock anthem. Most other tracks have a lot going for them. I don't know, but that may have something to do with Larry's brother, Charlie, who performed extensively on this album. Charlie also did a great job on keyboards, if quirky in places.
In summary, not everyone will love this album. If you're not listening to the lyrics, there should be plenty to interest you and get a foot tapping. If you listen in to what he sings, well, you'll have to make up your own mind which road you're on.
