When it comes to making a strong first impression, it would be hard to beat Becoming the Archetype. The newly re-christened band (formerly known as The Remnant) exploded onto the scene in 2005 with Terminate Damnation, arguably the greatest Christian progressive death metal album since the days of Extol. From the truly epic three-part act of "Elegy" to the raw aggression of "Beyond Adaptation" and the closing lead guitar harmonies of "The Trivial Paroxysm," Becoming the Archetype demonstrated from the get-go that they were a band with serious chops and songwriting talent. For a subgenre that was never well-represented in Christian music, Becoming the Archetype positioned themselves a welcome sound for fans of secular acts like Opeth while bringing the talent and creativity to appeal outside of the Christian bubble as well.
