I miss Deas Vail. Perhaps they got pigeon-holed slightly as a Copeland imitator, but that's hardly fair. Over the course of their too-short career they honed their emo-tinged indie rock sound down to an art, with beautiful melodies, tastefully minimal instrumentation, and of course the stunning vocal duo of Wes and Laura Blaylock. Their self-titled swan song seemed to especially fly under the radar, but it's a work of real beauty from the upbeat energy of "Sixteen" and "Wake Up and Sleep" to the gentle melodies of "Desire" and "Common Sense." Even after nine years, it is well worth a revisit or first listen.
