For our 7th annual Highlighting feature, we split the year into TWO pieces -- January to June and July to December. Normally, we select our top 25 most anticipated releases for the whole year, but we realize that it's tough to really gauge EVERYTHING that may release throughout a given year when we're making the list in January. So, for 2012, we split the year into TWO pieces -- January to June and July to December, and we're using this format again for 2013. Also, each list contains 15 artists/releases for a total of 30 in total for 2013.
PLEASE NOTE:
We've already selected the first fifteen artists, so please click here to check those out. If you think an artist may be missing on this list, please keep in mind they may have made our list for the first half of the year before their release date was pushed back to the latter half of the year (like Switchfoot, Five Iron Frenzy and Relient K, for example). Without further ado, we give you Highlighting Second-Half 2013!

#11. Steven Curtis Chapman
The Glorious Unfolding
Release Date: September 30, 2013

Does it surprise anyone else that Chapman hasn't released a record of all-new material since 2007? Yeah, me too. But arguably the most dependable artist in the Christian Music scene is at it again with just that, and on the eve of his 27th year in CCM, SCC looks to continue his legacy of making some of the most timeless and heartfelt contemporary pop-rock one can imagine.

Steven Curtis Chapman has been one of the few consistent and reliable CCM singer/songwriters through the years to successfully create catchy pop music with artistic integrity. Thought-provoking lyrics are the norm for Chapman, and if he's not causing you to think deeper about spiritual topics, he's encouraging your soul. Judging by two songs we had the pleasure of sampling recently from The Glorious Unfolding, the album looks to be picking up where previous records like Declaration and This Moment left off. SCC is back... and it's 'something beautiful,' indeed.

With over ten million albums sold, 40-plus chart-topping hits and a Dove Award collection large enough to fill the average two-car garage, one might wonder if Chapman hasn't finally done all there is to do. Given his career-defining last album, 2009's Beauty Will Rise, however, most fans are inclined to toss that notion and conclude that the same muse that first nudged him into songwriting over a quarter century ago is still more than capable of inspiring transcendence on his latest effort.

My appreciation for Steven Curtis Chapman went way up after catching his Stories and Songs tour last year, as I listened and remembered just how big an impact his songs have had on me over the years. A true legacy artist continuing to create great music.
