#12. Fireflight
INNOVA
Release Date: May 5, 2015

Hey, my small Florida hometown doesn't have a lot of claims to fame, but I can say I remember seeing Fireflight posters all over my community college campus when they were just starting out. Fifteen years later, I'm interested to hear where they are now in their new indie record, Innova.

Innova is a carryover from the expected releases of last year, and we're still curious about this band's future in the independent ranks. The trendy and electronic-heavy "Resuscitate" makes Unbreakable feel like a long time ago, but it showcases Fireflight's reliance on a powerful presence to carry the day, and I'm interested in the whole final product.

There have been a bunch of changes for Fireflight in recent years (miss ya, Justin!), but their return to independent status isn't stopping these guys, and although Dawn's pending motherhood has delayed their new album's release by months, early demos suggest that INNOVA is going to be worth the wait!

Fireflight has never been a big favorite, but they have made four solid albums that I've quite enjoyed. Of course, I thought almost the exact same about Disciple before they went independent, released Attack, and made my top-ten for 2014. Will Fireflight do the same now that they are independent? I'm excited to find out!

I've always been a fan of this group because of their talent and honesty that seems to be lacking in many artists these days. Dawn Michele has a very distinct voice that separates this band from a typical hard rock band fronted with a female lead singer. An independent release could display some concepts that the band has never shown its listeners before on previous albums.
