#8. Steve Taylor and the Danielson Foil
Wow To The Deadness EP
Release Date: February 5, 2016

After such a long musical hiatus for Steve Taylor, 2014's Goliath was a welcome return. But the frenzy will continue this year with Wow to the Deadness. With Daniel Smith now joining the supergroup for the next installment, and with legendary producer Steve Albini on board, well, we have a winner.

Taylor's return to music was a total delight when he and his band of CCM legends released Goliath in 2014. Now Daniel Smith of Danielson has joined the group for a brand new EP, and while his vocals are an acquired taste, the quirkiness of Danielson definitely blends well with the inherent quirkiness that Steve has always brought to the table. A promised live project to accompany WOW to the Deadness this spring also makes it a project to take note of.

A Steve Taylor and Danielson joint project? Two of Christian music's most notoriously wacky artists together on one project? I think my inner music geek just had a heart attack and is in need of defibrillation. Back in the 90's, both these artists spoke to me that Christendom was a wide thing, and that there were fellow believers out there who were as wacky as I was. It wasn't all cookie-cutter pop music. In that spirit, my inner nineteen-year-old can't wait to see what these two have in store.

This is such a cool combination! Danielson is probably new to a lot of people (especially younger listeners -- see "Potty Mouth" and "Rubbernecker"), but they are so fun and quirky. Couple that with Steve Taylor, who's pretty dang fun and quirky himself, and you just get awesome. Steve Taylor & and the Danielson Foil may not be considered 2016's best release, but you'll be hard pressed to find another that's as unique and fun a listen.

Steve Taylor is on fire. Having released Goliath just over a year ago, Taylor is already on to his next project. Collaborating with Daniel Smith of the American rock band Danielson, this new release is sure to be another raucously fun highlight of Steve's career.
