dead end roads
and broken hearts
the dreams you had
were torn apart
all gone
you were far from home
all you wanted was something right
something to warm you in the night
so cold
down to the bone
and in the silence you heard a voice
with a prayer you made a choice
you were looking for love on the good kings highway
born in a storm and raised in a hurricane, raised in a hurricane
you were looking for hope on the good kings highway
rescued at last even though you were a runaway, you were a runaway
on the good kings highway
this world turns fast in neon lights
your life flies past like a bird in flight
you've flown
oh how you've grown
you're amazed at how far you've come
across the miles you've changed your song
so new
ultraviolet you
you tried to find anything to find the truth
and your bruises are the proof
you were looking for love on the good kings highway
born in a storm and raised in a hurricane, raised in a hurricane
you were looking for hope on the good kings highway
rescued at last even though you were a runaway, you were a runaway
on the good kings highway
turn on the lights, cut through the dark
on the good kings highway
just ride the road straight through your heart
on the good kings highway
He'll meet you there right where you are
on the goods king highway
on the good kings highway
you were looking for love on the good kings highway
born in a storm and raised in a hurricane, raised in a hurricane
you were looking for hope on the good kings highway
rescued at last even though you were a runaway, you were a runaway
on the good kings highway
top down on the open road
you keep going down the open road
top down on the open road
you keep going down the open road
(Kevin Max, Josh Silverberg, Kipp Williams)
Behind the Song:I started writing this song during the 2nd year on the road with Audio Adrenaline. This song came about one morning at Capitol records in Nashville, writing with my good friend Josh Silverberg. Josh, Kipp Williams and I began to put together a track based on a melody that I had running around in my head. We wanted to make the intro to the song a bit more epic than usual, so the original demo was much longer in scope. As the melody came into focus I started formulating lyrics on the spot, in the studio...I basically wrote out the finished lyrics within an hour or so. The meaning behind GKH was taken from my visits to Haiti and seeing the lifestyle of the people, in conjunction with Hands and Feet orphanage. I noticed so many men and women that had been displaced, and seemingly surviving on their own without any help. There were many children growing up without a home or shelter, in the toxic conditions of a country on the edge of sanity. I pictured a child in Haiti growing up trying to make his or her destiny happen without a parent or a society that could intervene. God's grace comes into play, and His natural way of helping us without us even knowing. The image of the open road or highway is a parallel to life… we walk down this road not knowing what will become of us, but trusting that somehow we will survive. The vibe of the song was obviously taken from the U2/Bruce Springsteen playbook… -- Kevin Max
