Dull the edge so that it's softer
and it won't offend their ears
Water down to make it simple
you could sell it anywhere
But now it seems you're disenchanted
and you're wanting more
You're afraid to reason
Your love is saving no one
The market is open
If it's easy we will buy it all
And I watched you let yourself out
like you had something to prove
but you're more than who you're sleeping with
and I know it bothers you
And now it seems you're disenchanted
but you've got to save face
Praising all your feelings they are only fiction
If you search for comfort you won't find it
In the end we don't get to answer to ourselves
Behind the Song:"This song carries the burden of our band. Our hearts are broken over the selling-out and watering-down of the Gospel. So many churches are telling people that Jesus came to show us how to love each other, or to teach us how to love ourselves, or that God loves us just the way we are and that we don't need to change a bit, or...well, pretty much anything. That's the travesty of sin being committed in many mainline churches today - We can all fabricate a gospel of our own choosing, as long as it feels right.
The fact is, the Bible is clear about man's falling into sin and needing the righteousness of Christ to atone for us. Repenting and trusting in Christ saves us from hell and gives us right standing with Him. This is what Jesus lived and died for - to purchase us by His blood. There is nothing comfortable or fun about admitting that we are all depraved and sinful in nature, but seeking truth is the only way to find TRUE comfort in the end. For that matter, the people taking in these false gospels are missing out on the abundant life on earth, as they focus on feeling good about themselves, rather than trusting a God who can "satisfy all their needs from His riches in glory."
This is not an angry song. It is a grieving over the risen Christ being changed from a desperately needed, sovereign, life-changing Savior into an ineffectual, customizable buddy, who had a lot of nice things to say. Christ came to redeem sinners. What an amazing gospel of love.” - Justin Anderson (
