07. Stir

Wide-Eyed and Mystified
by downhere

You belong here, everyone's invited
You can’t fail here, 'cause we can't fail united
It's safe to be yourself here
And it's time to go beyond here

We’ve got life to give,
So why don’t we do what we we’re saved for
Come along, why don’t we stir?
You know you and I could do so much more together
We are the new at heart, so why don’t we stir?

We are strong here, but weakness is for certain
To show our love here, we share each other's burdens
We don't mind, 'cause there is nothing left to fear
And Love divine is calling us out from here...

We are salting, lighting
We refresh like raining
We are love remaining
And we've got...

Behind the Song:
"The motto at the church I attend is "Together is better." As corny as that sounds off the bat to a guy who's always looking for the hip new rhyme, upon further reflection, the depth of this truth is quite immediate to me. I've known loneliness all too well at times. Not only is loneliness well, um, lonely, it's debilitating. The sheer temptation to wallow in self-pity just saps me of any desire to do anything productive. We were made for relationship, to thrive in community, and not on our lonesome. Even I know that, and I'm an introvert! But all interpersonal psychology aside, I believe that God uses this basic need in us to accomplish His purposes. So much so, that I believe that on His list of ways to accomplish His will on earth, it's number one. He does it through the ultimate human community—the Church. "Stir" is a statement of identity. Understanding who we are helps us understand our calling and our purpose. We are a people for the people. We are salt and light in the world. We are the open arms of God—the very evidence that He is here with the power to turn any life into something beautiful. And just like many are better than one to move a fridge or win a game of baseball, how much more is that true when the Church moves as one to do God's work!" - Marc Martel (downhere)
