Welcome sweet Spirit
Come stir me with Your fire
Whisper Your secrets
Your deepest hearts desire
I will obey
I will be true
I will be poured out
Just for You
CHORUS
Fill me with Your power
Birth Your passion in my soul
Let Your Holy Spirit
Fall on me, fall on me
Fill me with Your purpose
Place Your Kingdom in my heart
Let Your Holy Spirit
Fall on me
WORDS AND MUSIC BY JEFF DEYO AND JONATHAN LEE
Behind the Song:"In Acts 2:38-39, Peter quotes Joel 2:17-18 declaring that in the last days God promises to pour out His Spirit on all people. God’s purpose in this is to become personally intimate with us, His people, giving us power, wisdom, strength and guidance we would not have otherwise. Old Testament Jews were typically overshadowed by the Holy Spirit only for a short time, and those who lived during Jesus’ time had access to Jesus only one at a time. Jesus told us in John 16:7 that it was to our advantage if He went back to the Father so that the Spirit could come.
This song is a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to fall on us so that we might receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and be filled with the Holy Spirit daily as we continually let the rivers of living water pour out from within, leading us in our daily lives.
Another fascinating part I included in this song is the truth we understand from 1 Corinthians 2:10-12. Paul teaches us that the Holy Spirit “searches out everything and shows us even God’s deep secrets.” He reminds us here that God has given us His Spirit “so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.” This song acts as a prayer that both acknowledges our understanding of the Spirit’s purpose and guides us in asking the Holy Spirit to share these deep secrets of God.
I became a Christian when I was 4, but being filled with the Holy Spirit was not something I grew up knowing about. It has been a personal journey over many years that led me to the place where 10 years ago, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It changed my life in many ways for the better, including a deepening walk, a stronger anointing and a bolder witness. It also allows me to move more in unity with the desires of the Spirit and to hear his voice more clearly. Mine is a growing relationship with God’s Spirit and something that requires regular refilling as I pour out his Spirit to others. My relationship with God’s Spirit is not where I want it to be, but it is becoming stronger each day." - Jeff Deyo
