If you are who is trying out Christian music for the first time, or if you enjoy any kind of music, the best way that I can describe Caedmon's Call's 40 Acres is that they are a mellower version of Barenaked Ladies. I really enjoyed the instrumentation on this record, especially what I believe to be a 'leslie' in songs like "Climb-on."
The first selection, "There You Go," was a good choice to put as a lead-off song. The beat is catchy and held my interest. I didn't like the next song, though, because it had too much of a country feel, but if you're a fan of the more southern-leaning sound, it might be right up your alley.
The songs I really enjoyed here are "Shifting Sand," "Table For Two," "Somewhere North," and "Petrified Heart." "Petrified Heart" also reminds me of a Third Day type of song (this is a good thing... I like Third Day very much), but it had sort of an Irish twist to it.
All in all, 40 Acres has been much needed for the trials that I have been going through in recent weeks, and I recommend it to anyone else feeling the pressures of the end of the semester (or school year, or just everyday life!). God is so good; just cast your cares upon Him, and watch what He does with them!
