Jump5
Hello & Goodbye

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 10 tracks: 30 minutes, 58 seconds
Street Date: October 9, 2007

For the past seven years, Jump5 has literally defined the term "teen pop." Their eight previous studio albums have spawned four #1 Radio Disney hits and their impact in the Christian market has been equally as successful. They've covered songs by artists like Michael W. Smith, Phil Collins, and perhaps most noticeably, fans get a chance to hear the group cover the immensely popular song by The Beatles, "Hello Goodbye" on this album. I wanted to cover this review because of the effect that Jump5 has had on me and millions of others, and I've always enjoyed the quirky, fun, and positive messages found abundantly throughout their music. This is the album made for all of the Jump5 fans out there to say hello, thank you, and of course, goodbye.

"Shoot the Moon" opens up the album with its upbeat melodies. The song, which speaks about living life to the fullest, was released as the first single from the album and became so popular that MTV used it in an episode of their hit reality series The Hills. One song that really stands out on this record is their cover of the worship song "I Surrender All." Their performance of this classic piece is impeccable and really shows that Jump5 hasn't let their fame stand in their way of proclaiming Christ. "You" and "Never Enough" praises God for His unconditional love and always being able to put our trust in Him. Fans will love the rhythms and beats of "Throw Your Hands Up 07," which sounds very close to something we could hear from a band like Superchic[k]. To close out the album, Jump5 includes their rendition of "Star-Spangled Banner." Brittany, Chris, Brandon and Lesley harmonize their voices exceptionally in this a capella number and truly show us one of the main reasons so many fans have come to love their music.

So does the record fall short of perfection in any area? Well, definitely not musically or lyrically, but the unfortunate short track listing will likely disappoint some, especially due to the fact that this is the last album from Jump5.

To conclude, this is an absolute must-have album for Jump5 fans out there everywhere. This group has done an impressive job of keeping a clean image, sound, and fan base and has never deserted their roots of being a God-centered, faith focused, and family friendly band. The legacy that they have left behind has opened up so many doors for other teen artists of faith including pureNRG, Barlowgirl, Everlife and the Jonas Brothers. We have Jump5 to thank for their many accomplishments and how they have changed lives. So to them we say hello to this great new album and goodbye to a group that will go down in history as one of todays greatest.
