To say that Tait avoided a sophomore slump with Lose This Life would be an understatement. Lose This Life gets off to a great start and doesn't miss a beat. The production is flawless and the songs are great… what more could you possibly ask for? A Christmas song? Well, Tait's got that covered as well.
Lose This Life opens with the title track, a pop-rocker about the life we find in Christ when we surrender this life to Him. "Numb" is a great rock song that includes a rap (courtesy of Pillar's Rob Beckley) that feels a little out of place at first, but sounds more fitting with each repeated listen.
The up-beat feel continues with a cover of the 80's song "Electric Avenue," before slowing down for "Fallen," a beautiful ballad about a girl that's fallen in love with Jesus.
The hidden track, "Christmas Song," is reminiscent of Nat King Cole's musical style and easily rivals Cole's famous rendition of the Mel Torme classic. Tait's take on the Christmas classic was recorded live to the classic 2-track format with players from the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic backing his incredible vocal performance.
Overall, Tait displays artistic and musical growth as a band with Lose This Life, a solid follow up to 2001's debut Empty. - Review date: 11/1/03, written by David Taylor
