Me In Motion
Me In Motion

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 10 tracks: 30 minutes, 14 seconds
Street Date: October 6, 2009

The rock trio Me In Motion released their self-titled debut EP from Word Records last year, and while it was certainly a respectable effort, it lacked any real uniqueness or zeal. So what's with another self-titled project from the threesome? To put it simply, Me In Motion is an extension of Me In Motion EP released by the band's new label, Centricity Music, tacking on an additional five new tracks here to the original five. While the five originals return unchanged, the new tracks are a great addition to Me In Motion's catalog and overall turn the project into a much better product altogether.

"Losers" opens up the record, and it's clear to see from this point that the five newest tracks have far better lyrical content by a mile. Calling out to the resented that Jesus loves them, we find gems-of lyrics like "maybe that's a 'four-eyed Jesus' coming from a broken home." "Leaving Here Someday" follows with fast-paced rock melodies backed with the message that we should put our treasure in eternal things before our time here is done ("I'll be gone before you know it, darling/this don't feel like home but I'll be leaving here someday/nothing but love is worth the trouble/nothing else will last; I gotta give it all away, ‘cause I'll be leaving here someday") "Gotta Be Something" refuses to be satisfied with a complacent lifestyle, while "Losing Myself" finds vocalist Seth Mosely letting every go to Him; it's probably the catchiest track of all the newest additions. The closer, "You Move Me," slows things down effectively, and as Mosely's vocals especially shine on this track, the song is an appropriate ending to the record.

Despite the new tracks, the final product is quite short for a full-length album. At barely thirty minutes, it's done and over far too quickly. This is partly due to the fact that every track is about three minutes or less, save for the last track, "You Move Me." Maybe a little more range in the track times would have improved the variability of the tracklisting. Besides this, there is still obvious growing room that remains for Me In Motion with this release. Hopefully, through more experience in the industry, the trio will expand on its high points and create something really remarkable. There's nothing bad about this release, but there's still a visible void of creativity that has yet to be filled.

Me In Motion is only available at the trio's live shows or online, but it's well worth the purchase for those unfamiliar with the band. If you already have Me In Motion EP, take advantage of this digital age and get the five new tracks individually from iTunes or the like. While the final wide-release edition of this record won't be released until early 2010, it's nonetheless a splendid example of plain-and-simple rock with a great message behind it, and while it's not an incredible album, it's still well worth checking out.
