Sarah Reeves, Sweet Sweet Sound

Album length: 7 tracks: 22 minutes, 40 seconds
Street Date: April 21, 2009

With her EP debut, Sarah Reeves drives it home with, in some songs, a sound that doesn't quite fit her Tweety-Bird persona. In only seven tracks, Sweet Sweet Sound carries forth a favorable blend of rock jams and delicate worship songs. Though it isn't flawless, there isn't a whole lot to grunt about here, making this one a healthy first release for the new Sparrow girl.

The EP opens with "Take These Words of Mine," a nifty intro that might catch you off guard, as it is a tune you might expect from a songwriter like Jon Foreman. After this, the EP switches gears drastically, though appropriately, with "Fresh Anointing." This one and its follow-up "Awaken" are the more upbeat tracks in the bunch. Next is the more popular and title track "Sweet Sweet Sound." While it wears a simple melody in the verse, the song as a whole works well for unwinding in worship. "Come Save" depicts the wounded Church crying out for Jesus' return. With a nice piano melody that sounds almost epic, it is also bold in its lyrics: "Time is running out, come save/ Death is creeping in, come save…" and in the next verse, "Addicted to our pride, come save/ Consumed in self-delight, come save…"

The sixth song, "Let Us Rise," brings back a more upbeat vibe, but sadly doesn't stand out too much. Finally the EP concludes with "My Savior," a song that might rank as a highlight in this release (along with "These Words of Mine (Intro)", "Fresh Anointing", and "Come Save").

As many are sure to enjoy this EP, expect even greater things from Sarah Reeves in the future. She has extensive talent and is creative and true in her style.
