With a sound similar to Deftones and at times the Foo Fighters, Lucerin Blue hits the scene with their debut on Tooth and Nail Records, Tales of the Knife. And while the disc offers nothing you haven't heard before in terms of style (a fusion of rap and rock), the amount of energy they bring to the forefront is what makes them ones to watch in the future.
The disc opens with what is by far the best track. "Game" begins with piano that moves into blazing guitar. "I've gotta get out of this game!" Justin Morgan screams about failed relationships. His vocals on this and all tracks on the disc let you know that he is passionate about what he performs. There is a sonic sound to the entire CD, one that draws you into Tales of the Knife. It is amazing that such a young band is able to bring that to what they write and play. Other highlights on the disc are "Monday in Vegas," "Man Made Weapon," "Black Pyramid," and the slow, yet still sonic and powerful "This Letter."
Honestly, the only drawback to the entire disc is that you won't find anything original musically. Yes, the sound is solid, but that might not be enough to draw those tired of the rap/rock genre into Tales of the Knife. However, for those who do enjoy the genre- and wouldn't mind hearing someone up the ante- Lucerin Blue is by far the best there is in Christian rock.
