Chasing Victory is the latest band to join the ever-growing Mono Vs. Stereo roster. Their debut EP, A Not So Tragic Cover-Up contains five songs that display their emo-flavored punk/hardcore sound, one that may seem somewhat bland, but still finds ways to impress you.
Adam Harrell's nasally, opening vocals on "Is This What You Want?" seem a bit immature, and they are, indeed, somewhat unique, but they improve as the album progresses. It could possibly be that you simply become accustomed to them. But, regardless, they are an acquired taste.
Chasing Victory is reminiscent of subseven and others in the emo/hardcore business. There is not very much that sets them apart from the many other genre-benders flooding the market as of late, but Harrell's vocals give this band the edge they need to stand out to any degree.
Nothing especially new, but most definitely worth a listen if the recent barrage of emo/hardcore bands is your thing. With their debut, Chasing Victory proves they have a not so tragic future ahead of them.
