Arkansas-based rock band Jackson Waters makes their Word Records debut on the web with their digital EP Center Of Attention. Opening with the pop-friendly "Give Me Amazing Grace," Jackson Waters might appear to just be your dime-a-dozen modern worship act, but further listening to the four-track release will reveal so much more. While the band's first single might seem particularly fashioned for radio, reflecting southern flavored elements found in artists like Big Daddy Weave or MercyMe, "Come Undone" bears a greater depth in songwriting as well as an edgy, more alternative rock sound that is the kind of sound a new band needs to be set apart from artists of similar genre. Vocalist David Leonard has a soulful and emotional vocal delivery that charges the standout track as well as its follow up, title track "Center of Attention," the latter of which shift gears once again to the more moody and melodic. The four-track appetizer to their pending March 6, 2007 full-length debut Come Undone closes with an acoustic rendition of the opening track which serves as a fine exclusive for anyone who especially enjoys the song, but may be a bit wasted on those who favor the middle tracks instead. Overall, Jackson Waters is off to a good start and the band's Center Of Attention EP is a great way to be introduced to an act that should have much to offer in the coming year.
