John Davis
John Davis

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 12 tracks: 48 minutes, 24 seconds
Street Date: March 8, 2005

Most should remember the name John Davis because of his work with Tennessee-based band Superdrag. Some will also recognize his voice because of his recent appearance on Relient K's "Let It All Out," one of the standout tracks from their latest release mmhmm.

Regardless of where you have heard his name or voice in that past, or if you have heard of him at all, his story might be enough to draw you in. Growing up, Davis fully embraced God; but as a member of Superdrag, Davis began a downward spiral of alcohol addiction. But during a night drive, God revealed Himself to Davis and he realized only God could fill the gaping hole in his life. Davis finished one last album with Superdrag and promptly left the band, bringing us to today, or more specifically, his self-titled solo debut.

Davis's piano-driven pop/rock ‘n roll style is a refreshing departure from the CCM norm. The closest comparison that comes to mind is The Swift, or in the mainstream world, The Beatles and even Elton John, but this album definitely stands out on its own.

And his testimony is fully apparent in his music. Specifically, "Salvation" talks about falling away from God and running back into His embrace. And each and every track (Save for a few short breaks, namely "Me & My Girl") speak of God and His blessings, which are brought into a new light once you have heard the story of John Davis.

A delight from beginning to end, Davis's debut is a fast, fun, and catchy disc to get your feet moving. Perhaps not for everyone, but you would be doing yourself a disservice to not give this one much consideration.
