In a world where original modern rock is hard to find, we're liable to be treated to a few alternatives for the secular acts that are currently grabbing the most earwax. And with the Christian music industry being behind in the times to an extent, it's no wonder Kutless is hitting the scene in 2002 with a significant influence from Creed and the abundance of Creed-like bands of rock today.
The opener, and current radio single, "Your Touch" gets the album off to a strong start, but the band doesn't offer much musically that you haven't already heard. What the difference is, however, while the blasphemous act Puddle of Mudd is asking you to slap their rear end in a sexual fashion, Kutless is crying out of our Lord's gracious touch. It's a no-brainer which band is glorifying our Savior more. "In Me" has a heavy Reflescent Tide, Creed sound while "Run" could pass for the next Creed radio hit. "Vow" is burdened by relatively cheesey lyrics while the chorus of "Tonight" is musically a downright copy of Creed's "What If," complete with hauntingly similar vocals.
For those looking for a different rock album, you'll want to pass over Kutless's self-titled debut. If you're a big fan of Creed and wouldn't mind a decent counterpart with simplistic lyrics, you may find a favorite among Kutless.
