Every once in awhile, a band reminds their fans that they're listening to the pleas and needs of their loyal followers. Since their last all-new studio recording was released after Christmas in 1998, All Star United hasn't been making too many waves. With "hits" from their two albums being compiled onto one contract-fulfilling greatest hits project last year, the fans were treated to two truly excellent new tracks. But besides those 2 songs, there hasn't been much new to please the eardrums since 98's Anthems for the Human Race. But ASU answered the cry of the fans for new music, and have released a super rare EP to be available to their loyalest of fans only via their website (and occasional other online sources). This 5-song EP is a little 'bread and butter' to tide the fans over till new material goes public (apparently later in 2001).
With that said, we have Let's Get Crazy: B-Sides, Rarities, and Previously Unreleased Material. This collection is in no way a disappointment and does everything it is set out to do -- gives the fans something while they wait. Just because they're B-sides (aka unused music on previous recordings), doesn't exactly make them second-rate. Not at all. In fact, I'd have to be honest and go as far as to say that I think that this collection of songs is far greater than their last full-length album. "Let's Get Crazy," the title track, is a pop-rock/punk track with an infectious rhythm and catchy lyrics. "Big Mistake" is a song along the lines of "Smash Hit," musically, and lyrically is nothing short of a 'devil-bashing' tune. Although "Fall On Me" and "Satellite" are nothing extraordinary, they're worthy pop/rock ballads and fullfill their mission as such nicely. "Song for the Broken Hearted" is an excellent offering of that style and does great as such (a 'song for the broken hearted'). An excellent record that should have been expanded for a wider release (as opposed to only 1,000 made), All Star United's Let's Get Crazy EP is an excellent treat and a must-have for ASU fans.
