Being a Pennsylvania native, I'm stoked to see My Heart To Fear getting signed by Solid State and dropping this five track EP. In case you're not familiar with this metal act from Williamsport, PA, you are in for a nice surprise.
This short EP opens with "Blood Money" and you're welcomed to exactly what this band does best: great metal with a few twists. "Dear Mr. White" is musical brilliance, as it seems the guitarist is battling the drummer as they play back and forth. "The Witching Hour" blends a beautiful melody with a gut-wrenching scream, and showcases some of the most unique metal I've heard in a long time.
Overall, the drums move at a ridiculous pace, the guitars practically fly off the handle, and the combination of growls and singing make for a sound similar to Haste The Day. The lyrical focus of this quick sampling speaks of fearing God alone - with growls of "I fear no man" - and the band's focus on life in the chants of "family, faith, pride, brotherhood." The intention is to inspire listeners in their Christian walk, and this goal is reached throughout. Any fan of metal is in for a treat with this release, and I'm excited to see where My Heart To Fear goes from here.
