After a three year hiatus and a trip to Africa, rapper Verbs (formerly Knowdaverbs) is back with limited release EP to get people ready for his next full-length release, The Groundwork Theory. The EP is currently only available through Verbs' MySpace (in digital and limited edition hard copy form).
The EP is short, but definitely worth it. The tracks pick up with the same rap/R&B sound that Verbs is known for from his last release, Unlocked. The difference between the rapper's older albums and these new releases is the production. In the past, the beats on his albums were quite raw and the lyrics were straightforward. Now, the beats are a lot cleaner and well done, while the lyrics have not lost any of their frankness. The standout track "Newsflash" is a throwback to the sound the rapper touched on in Unlocked, with a catchy chorus and clever lyrics. The beat for "I Yie!" is unconventional, but works with Verbs' mission feel. "Mutual" is a solid R&B flavored track, complete with piano and the rapper's first try at singing, rounding out the EP nicely.
This rare EP is worth getting, and leaves any fan wanting more, eagerly anticipating Verbs' next venture. Be on the look out for The Groundwork Theory.
