It's not every day that you come across a band that has three screamers (and, at one point, they had four screamers on one of their earlier releases). Also, you don't come across too many vegan straight edge Christian rock groups either. xDEATHSTARx have had many member changes over the years, especially during the year after they signed to Facedown records. One even left to start a church in California. So these changes leave you wondering if We Are The Threat is any good.
The answer to that is "yes" as it by far surpasses their first one. We Are The Threat starts off with the song "Where's Your Faith Now?" and from the get-go, this album's songs are in-your-face about what they believe. A stand out track is the song "The Great Opiate." It mixes their singing abilities in with one of the trio of screamers screaming stuff in the back ground during the chorus. The track also offers the best lyrics on the record. The chorus goes, "Fear our souls (fear the reverse)/ of the great opiate glory we hold (to the creator)/ fear our souls (fear the reverse)/ of the great opiate glory we hold (to the creator)."
Another stand out track, "Because the Flesh is Weak," is about why they choose to be drug free, which ties in to them being "straight edge." The record closes with the song "Salvation," where some of the song's lyrics talk about salvation through Christ.
The overall feel of xDEATHSTARx's Facedown debut, We Are The Threat, is your basic straight edge hardcore sound. If you are a fan of this style of music, I highly recommend this album. It's also recommended if you are just looking for an alternative to your early morning Red Bull fix.
